New York Attorney General Letitia James recently launched efforts to destroy a conservative website, accusing it of real-estate wrongdoing.

James, who indicted former President Donald Trump for allegedly committing fraud throughout his entrepreneurial career, is now going after a conservative website called VDARE.
The New American pointed out that VDARE is a nonprofit entity that opposes illegal immigration. The reason James is going after the website is not because it engaged in real-estate wrongdoing, but instead because it does not share her leftist beliefs.
Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo previously said that conservatives “have no place in the state of New York.” James is now putting the ex-New York governor’s words into action.
The American Conservative’s Christopher Brunet reported on the story, noting that VDARE has attacked James in the past.
“VDARE has not been charged with any crime, yet has ‘fought NYAG Letitia James, at a cost of up to $1 million, for nearly three years.’ An onslaught of onerous subpoenas marks not a quest for justice but an orchestrated attempt to financially and morally bankrupt those who dare resist the liberal creed,” Brunet wrote.
“Letitia James’s electoral platform was built on this very promise: she vowed to ‘shine a bright light into every dark corner of [Donald Trump’s] real estate dealings,’ just like she promised to ‘take tougher legal action on organizations that engage in…online hate speech against protected classes,’” Brunet added.
“Except, James cannot actually take legal action against VDARE for their ‘hate speech against protected classes’ because everything that VDARE writes is protected by the pesky First Amendment,” he continued.
In James’ quest to punish the conservative website, she pointed to VDARE’s purchase of a $1.4 million caste in West Virginia as a conference space. The company purchased the building since hotels kept canceling its meeting bookings. Brunet noted that the website is unable to find a bank to facilitate credit card donations.
“VDARE is the first charitable organization to buy a nice conference space,” Brunet continued. “The American Institute for Economic Research has its own mansion, and the Aspen Institute has its own ski resort. And who can forget Black Lives Matter buying a $6 million mansion to use for parties?”
