Conservatives began to boycott Planet Fitness this month after the gym chain stood by its decision to cancel a woman’s membership after she complained that a man was using the women’s bathroom because the man says he is a transwoman.

The incident went viral when Libs of TikTok posted a video and photo to X, formerly Twitter. “Good day, I just wanted to say I just came out of Planet Fitness,” the Planet Fitness customer said in the video. “And there is a man shaving in the women’s bathroom.”
She was unhappy about the intrusion into women’s personal spaces in a public gym.
“I realize he wants to be a woman. He gets to be a woman. I love him in Christ. He’s a spiritual being having a human experience. He doesn’t like his gender so he wants to be a woman. But I’m not comfortable with him shaving in my bathroom,” the brave woman said on camera. “Okay, I just thought I would say it out loud.”
It was a risky move for her to say that out loud in the kind of culture we have, as evidenced by what happened next. Planet Fitness decided to cancel her membership and ban her from its gyms.

The gym chain said: “Our gender identity non-discrimination policy states that members and guests may use the gym facilities that best align with their sincere, self-reported gender identity. The member who posted on social media violated our mobile device policy that prohibits taking photos of individuals in the locker room, which resulted in their membership being terminated.”
The photo of the man in the women’s bathroom at Planet Fitness shows a person who is in no way recognizable as a woman and made zero efforts to present as female, but he says he is a woman.
That’s good enough for Planet Fitness, whose website states, “Planet Fitness prohibits discrimination and harassment that is based on gender identity or gender expression in the workplace and in our clubs.”
On X, conservatives called for a boycott, suggesting customers give the woke gym chain “the Bud Light treatment,” referring to the beer company’s tanking sales after using a trans spokesperson to endorse the light beer for a marketing campaign.
