Special Counsel Jack Smith Attacks Trump Over Gun Video

Special Counsel Jack Smith is requesting a gag order be imposed on former President Donald Trump in the case accusing him of seeking to overturn the 2020 election. What spurred this? Video footage that shows Trump in a South Carolina gun shop. It gets weirder.

Smith filed the request on Friday, suggesting Trump’s presence at the gun shop — as he held a custom Glock — may serve as evidence that he might have broken the law or violated the terms of his release.

A social media post captioned, “President Trump purchases @GLOCKInc in South Carolina!” was shared on September 25 before the spokesman deleted the post and retracted the statement, noting Trump did not purchase or take possession of the gun.

Later, a Trump supporter shared the video — captioning it, “MY PRESIDENT Trump just bought a Golden Glock before his rally in South Carolina after being arrested 4 TIMES in a year.” Trump shared that re-post. Now, Smith is intent on seeing that he is penalized for it.

Currently, Trump is facing 91 felony charges stemming from four cases against him. Federal law prohibits felony defendants from purchasing firearms, but it isn’t clear whether Trump purchased the gun in the video.

Smith argued that Trump “either purchased a gun in violation of the law and his conditions of release or seeks to benefit from his supporters’ mistaken belief that he did so.”

The request included recent remarks Trump has made about Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Last week, Trump pointed the finger of blame at Milley, claiming he was guilty of treason for communicating with China behind his back.

Smith’s latest filing comes in response to a reply from the Trump team to a limited gag order Smith asked for two weeks ago. That filing noted, “The defendant has an established practice of issuing inflammatory public statements targeted at individuals or institutions that present an obstacle or challenge to him.”

In a nutshell, Smith alleged that Trump is aiming to discredit the judicial system in advance of his trial and that he is rallying the troops to influence the way they feel about any potential verdict rendered against him by that system. He suggested Trump could have his release-pending-trial status revoked and wait out his days until trial in a jail cell.

Smith’s demand for the gag order appears far-reaching to many conservatives who feel the slew of indictments and investigations into Trump are nothing more than theater and Democrat desperation as Trump’s poll numbers continue to soar.

Trump’s attorneys have argued a gag order would be censorship and election interference. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan has yet to speak on the updated matter. Recently, Trump called for Chutkan to recuse herself, and she denied that request. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The case is currently slated for trial on March 4, 2024.
