A Portland butcher shop with a co-owner that has previously expressed left-leaning views on social media has nevertheless been vandalized by a group calling itself Rose City Antifa.
According to the Post Millenial, Rose City Antifa, under the byline “rosecitycounterinfo,” said in a blog post that they shut off power to Pasture PDX in an attempt to make their animal meat unsellable. The group also claims to have shut power to nearby stores for no other reason other than “it was fun.”
In June 2020 during the height of the Antifa/BLM riots across the nation in response to the death of George Floyd, the co-owner shared a Facebook post that criticized people denouncing property destruction as an example of white privilege.
In the blog, the anarchist group said the attack was “dedicated to Jack, the Susaron 4 comrades in Chile, and all antispeciesists who have been put in cages.”
According to Anarchistnews.org, the Susarona 4 are animal rights activists in prison for an arson attack at a meat packaging plant in Chile in November 2022, where the refrigeration system and trucks were burned.
Conservative journalist Andy Ngo took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the Post Millennial story and add that the co-owners are known leftists who were critical of the police response to the 2020 protests.

Pasture PDX was favorably reviewed by Portland Monthly in 2022 as one of the best butcher shops in the city.
“Pasture is the newest edition to Portland’s thriving butcher shop scene. Following a successful 2021 pop-up at Tails & Trotters in 2021, Pasture opened on Alberta Street in early 2022, and has quickly become one of the city’s buzziest lunchtime destinations.”
The review went on to say that the butcher shop “maintains a focus on meat sourced on regenerative agriculture.”
Hostility towards butcher shops is not unheard of on the West Coast. In 2017, A Berkeley, CA butcher shop placed a warning sign in their windows that the store sold meat in an attempt to make peace with local vegan activists who had been protesting outside.
