Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams changed his tune Monday night regarding the laws in place for the illegal immigrants that have settled in the city.
During a town hall meeting held in Brooklyn, Adams stated that the “sanctuary city law” needed to be modified to allow for deportation in cases of felonies or violent crimes.
“But those small numbers that have committed crimes, we need to modify the sanctuary city law that if you commit a felony or violent act we should be able to turn you over to ICE and have you deported,” he said as the room erupted into applause.
“It is a right to live in this city and you should be not committing crimes in our city in doing so. Right now, we don’t have the authority to do so,” Adams added.
Wow.

Adams also addressed the room about the criticism he has been facing from the public regarding the illegal immigration the city has been facing. With all of the crimes being committed by illegal aliens in the city, Adams stated that his hands were tied because he would be breaking the law.
According to New York City’s sanctuary laws, which were signed into law by former Democratic Mayor Ed Koch in 1989, city officials are banned from sharing information about illegal immigrants unless concerning a criminal matter. It was then Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio who revised the law in 2014, further limiting law enforcement’s cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Adams did, however, tell the crowd that he had handled the crisis like “no other city.”
“So I am inheriting a national crisis that I have to resolve and we are resolving that crisis like no other city, folks,” he said. “Go Google other cities. You don’t see tent cities in New York. You don’t see children and families sleeping on the street in New York. This team here has managed the crisis each time they come.”
Adams’ change of heart comes after an illegal immigrant crime wave hit the city. The city made national headlines in January when a video went viral on social media showing a gang of illegal immigrants assaulting two NYPD officers.
The city was also plagued with gangs of illegal aliens on mopeds robbing at least 62 victims. In each case, some of the illegal aliens have been linked to Tren de Aragua, a deadly Venezuelan gang that has begun to set up in New York City, along with other Democratic cities, thanks to the Biden administration.
