For the last few years, Democrats have feared a possible 2020 rematch between former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden. Now that it will be a reality, it has been revealed that former President Barack Obama met with Biden to express his concerns.
According to a source close to the White House, Obama warned Biden about his re-election campaign back in June, calling it “shaky.” When he saw no changes being made, the former president returned in December to give Biden an urgent warning.
“He expressed concern the re-election campaign was behind schedule in building out its field operations, and bottlenecked by Biden’s insistence on relying upon an insular group of advisers clustered in the West Wing, according to the same Democratic insider,” TIME reported.
While Biden seems confident in using the same strategies he used in 2020 to defeat Trump for a second time, many Democrats have criticized this type of thinking.
“This is how he’s always run his campaigns. He and his insiders know better. Last time, it worked, so he didn’t learn any of the lessons, and thinks he can run 2020 again,” a Democratic strategist who worked with Biden told TIME.

Democrats have a reason to be concerned. With all of the chaos since Biden took office, some of the voters who put him in office four years ago are no longer in his corner.
Despite immigration being a top concern for Americans, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have spent their time focusing on abortion rights.

One key metric Democrats have always counted on to win elections, including Biden, is the Black vote. In 2020, only 4% of Black voters surveyed said that they would vote for Trump. Four years later, that number has increased to 23%.
According to a New York Times/Siena poll conducted earlier this month, Trump would be victorious over Biden if the election were held today, winning by five points.
A Bloomberg poll also released earlier this month showed Trump beating Biden in seven swing states.
Knowing Biden, he’s not too concerned about what the latest polls say. According to him, he’s leading in all of the real polls.
