Joe Biden delivered a speech to the National Association of Counties, advocating for more substantial gun control and charging there is “no rationale … for magazines that hold 50, 70 bullets,” as reported by Breitbart News.
“We took a big step toward passing the most significant bipartisan gun legislation in 30 years — ghost guns and other things, background checks. But there’s a lot more work to do,” Biden proclaimed.
“I’m going to say something that’s always controversial, but there is no rationale for assault weapons and magazines that hold 50, 70 bullets,” added the White House occupant. “We got it done once. We’re going to do it again.”

Biden additionally urged support for universal background checks, gun storage requirements, and holding gun companies legally liable if their weapons are used to commit crimes.
A couple of months ago, Biden spoke at 10th Annual National Vigil for All Victims of Gun Violence, remarking, “Together, we’ve made some important progress: the most significant gun law passed in 30 years, but still not enough. … Even as our work continues to limit the number of bullets that can be in a cartridge, the type of weapon that can be purchased and sold, the attempt to ban assault weapons — a whole range of things that are just common sense. Just simple common sense.”
He brought up the now-expired federal “assault weapons” ban that was put in place in 1994, urging for another prohibition.
“We can do it again. Scripture says, ‘The light shines in darkness and the darkness have not overcome it.'”
Some Republican officials have declared their vocal opposition to Biden’s arguably anti-Second Amendment views, including a coalition of 15 GOP attorneys general who drafted a letter asserting their opposition to his proposed policies. In the eyes of the attorneys general, Biden’s views and desired changes to U.S. gun laws fly completely in the face of our God-given rights.
The letter wrote, among other things, that Biden’s calls for Congress to ban “assault weapons” is both “irresponsible and unconstitutional.”
“The right to keep and bear arms in self-defense guards and protects the right to life, the first and most fundamental God-given right recognized in the Declaration of Independence. And, needless to say, your repeated attempts to deprive law-abiding Americans of guns that are in common and widespread use for self-defense are patently unconstitutional,” read the letter.
