Report: Venezuela Empties Prisons To Send Criminals North As Migrants

Even as controversy swirls around Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis flying dozens of Venezuelan migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, there is shocking news that the country is emptying its prisons and sending violent inmates northwards.

Breitbart News confirmed a Department of Homeland Security intelligence report was delivered to Border Patrol. It instructs agents to search for inmates from Venezuela seeking to enter the U.S.

The Venezuelan government, which is led by Nicolas Maduro Moros, is said to be purposefully releasing prisoners for the migration north. Some, it claimed, are guilty of murder, rape, and extortion.

It is unclear whether the formerly incarcerated migrants travel as unified groups or are mingled in with others. Reports do say it is common knowledge among the Venezuelans that there are many released criminals in their midst.

Another major issue facing Border Patrol is knowing who are the rank-and-file migrants seeking asylum and who are possibly hardened criminals.

Without an unlikely confession, agents will normally process migrants surrendering at the U.S. border before releasing them into the country. There are no meaningful diplomatic relations with Venezuela, and U.S. officials have very few resources for knowing who the criminals are.

CBP officials report that between Oct. 2021 and July 2022, there were over 130,000 Venezuelans encountered attempting to enter the U.S. illegally. That’s an exponential increase from the estimated less than 5,000 apprehended by Border Patrol in Fiscal Year 2020.

Florida, which has a $12 million fund set up to transport illegal migrants out of state, recently flew dozens of Venezuelan migrants to the wealthy Massachusetts enclave of Martha’s Vineyard.

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis defended the action as a way “to protect Florida.”

Liberals are horrified, of course, that the faraway crisis on the border is suddenly showing up at their own doorsteps. Cities that claim to be “sanctuaries” and radicals who secretly believe in wide-open borders detest the idea that Republican governors are making them back up their words.

And with the Homeland Security report of Venezuela unloaded its prisons onto the American border, who can blame the states for not wanting to shoulder all the risk simply due to geography?
