Impeachment Week: MTG Targets Attorney General Garland

In a highly anticipated move, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is set to introduce articles of impeachment against United States Attorney General Merrick Garland on Wednesday. Greene has accused Garland of weaponizing the Department of Justice (DOJ) and targeting political opponents of President Joe Biden.

Greene stated, “Merrick Garland has weaponized the DOJ against Joe Biden’s political enemies. He’s targeted parents who are concerned about their children’s education, targeted Christians and pro-life activists, and even raided the home of a President. He must be impeached.”

The citation claims Garland has abused his position, enabling the “weaponization and politicization” of the justice system against the American people. It alleges Garland has endangered the justice system and empowered President Biden to persecute his political adversaries without constraint.

Attorney General Garland’s handling of various cases has been a point of contention. The charges highlight his October 2021 memorandum, which directed the FBI to target parents protesting actions by local school boards. The memo was prompted by a letter from the National School Boards Association, which likened these protests to domestic terrorism.

Greene argues Garland’s actions are an attack on the constitutional right to free speech and an affront to American parents. The formal charges brought against the politician accuse him of permitting the DOJ to target people of faith and those seeking to protect the sanctity of life.

The resolution claims Garland’s department has failed to designate violent pro-abortion groups as domestic terrorist organizations and neglected to prosecute leftist extremists involved in threats against Supreme Court Justices.

Additionally, the indictment claims Garland selectively targeted political protesters, while neglecting to prosecute Antifa and Black Lives Matter rioters responsible for extensive property damage. Furthermore, the resolution showcased how Garland abused his power by singling out former President Donald J. Trump.

It states Garland’s persecution of Trump, including the declassification of legally authorized documents — exemplifies a pattern of conduct incompatible with his duties as a civil officer of the United States.

In addition to introducing articles of impeachment against Attorney General Garland, Greene has also initiated proceedings against FBI Director Christopher Wray and U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Matthew Graves.
