Several migrants who crossed the border illegally into El Paso, Texas told the Daily Caller News Foundation that President Joe Biden and his policies were the reason they came.
Ahead of President Joe Biden’s first trip to the U.S.-Mexico border Sunday, several illegal border crossers told the Daily Caller News Foundation why they came to America, saying the president’s rhetoric drove them to the border.
“We sold everything to come here because President Biden told us to come and now we can’t return because we are targets for leaving,” one illegal immigrant from Venezuela told the Daily Caller.
When asked whether or not Biden influenced his decision to cross the border, another illegal migrant, Joshua, said, “At first yes,” before going into more detail surrounding his thoughts on Biden.
“Every president has policies, like the subject of immigration and war. President Biden had good policies because he allowed in people from Central and South America. Unfortunately, the policies changed. But in general, I think he gives us all a chance because we deserve it. Many people have given their word just like me as we left our countries of origin to arrive here to the United States.”
Another Venezuelan migrant, who was permitted into the country on humanitarian grounds, feels little pressure to leave, despite Title 42 permitting the Department of Homeland Security to deport Venezuelans who crossed illegally.
“We do not want to stay in El Paso, but it is very difficult to leave,” she said.
“They are suggesting for us to wait until tomorrow to see what news President Biden gives us. In the name of Jesus, we wish that he speaks from the heart and gives us the chance to arrive to this country and work,” the Venezuelan woman told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
The DCNF’s Jennie Taer spoke to El Pasoans ahead of Biden’s visit to the border, catching up with former City Councilwoman Claudia Rodriguez.
In a clip shared to Twitter by Taer, Rodriguez says she was pushed out of her post for calling out Democrats for enabling the border crisis.
