On Wednesday, House Republicans officially issued subpoenas for members of President Joe Biden’s family and one of their business associates.
This news comes soon after the House Oversight Committee released evidence that the president profited off of his family’s business schemes in the form of at least two personal checks from his brother, James Biden, and sister-in-law, Sara Biden. While these checks were labeled as “loan repayments,” the president has refused to provide the committee with any documents proving that he had provided his brother with a loan.
Lead impeachment investigator, House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY), signed the subpoenas, which were sent to Hunter Biden, James Biden, and former Biden family business associate Rob Walker.
The Oversight Committee shared photocopied images of the subpoenas in a thread on X, formerly known as Twitter, alongside a video of Comer signing the documents.

It was also noted in the thread that Comer had requested other Biden family members and their associates appear before the committee for transcribed interviews, though they were not subpoenaed. These individuals include Sara Biden; the president’s daughter-in-law, Hallie Biden; her sister, Elizabeth Secundy; Hunter Biden’s wife, Melissa Cohen; and Hunter Biden’s former business partner, Tony Bobulinski.

“The House Oversight Committee has followed the money and built a record of evidence revealing how Joe Biden knew, was involved, and benefited from his family’s influence-peddling schemes. Now, the House Oversight Committee is going to bring in members of the Biden family and their associates to question them on this record of evidence,” Comer wrote in a statement.
“Unlike the many lies President Biden told the American people about his family’s business schemes, bank records don’t lie. These records reveal how the Bidens sold Joe Biden around to the world to benefit the Biden family, including Joe Biden himself, to the detriment of U.S. interests,” the statement continued. “The House Oversight Committee, along with the Committees on Judiciary and Ways and Means, will continue to follow the facts and deliver the transparency and accountability that the American people demand and deserve.”
In a press release, the Oversight Committee explained that there are likely going to be more subpoenas and transcribed interview requests coming from Comer later this week.
Meanwhile, Hunter Biden’s attorney Abbe Lowell has sent a letter to newly-elected Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) begging him to be a “different” speaker and urging him to force Comer and other congressional investigators to leave the Biden family alone.
Lowell also called on Johnson to restore “the integrity and reputation of your chamber” and urged him to start by holding Comer and other impeachment investigators “to the facts and stopping them from continuing their partisan political games. The latest example of their hoping to do the opposite is ripe for your intervention.”
