Former President Donald Trump posted on his Truth Social account that Fox News is pushing a “Democrat agenda” while also offering to help CNN become a conservative news site, if the network so desired.
According to the Guardian, Trump watched Fox News religiously stating that “in 2019 alone he sent 657 responses to Fox News or Fox Business programs on Twitter.” Just a few short years ago, it seemed like Trump could and would call into Fox News programs whenever he liked.
Recently, however, Trump hasn’t been on any of the Fox shows. The New York Times reports that it has been more than 100 days since he has even been interviewed on the network.
On July 26, Former Vice President Pence and Trump both delivered speeches on the same day. There were numerous news outlets covering Trump’s speech, but one was noticeably absent: Fox News.
When Vice President Pence delivered a speech less than a mile away from Trump’s venue, Fox went live for 17 minutes, uninterrupted, to bring Pence’s speech to its viewers.
The “Fox News snub” of President Trump is so noticeable that even CNN has brought it up in their reporting.
At the same time, #boycottcnn has been trending on Twitter for most of the past week. Popular CNN hosts like John Harwood, Brian Stelter, and Jeffrey Toobin have all left their jobs at CNN and many people are asking why.
Shortly before Harwood left CNN, Harwood had this to say, “The core point [Biden] made in that political speech, about a threat to democracy, was true. That’s something that’s not easy for us, as journalists, to say. We’re brought up to believe there’s two different political parties with different points of view and we don’t take sides in honest disagreements. But that’s not what we’re talking about, these are not honest disagreements. The Republican Party right now is led by a dishonest demagogue. Many, many Republicans are rallying around his lies about the 2020 election and other things as well. And a significant portion… attacked the Capitol on January 6th.”
Under new leadership, CNN is reportedly trying to shift perceptions of its political bias and moving closer to the center. Many Democrats, including Dan Rather, have not liked the change.
What is going on at CNN? It’s a serious question. There is a lot of speculation on directives and motives. What’s really going on? And is it being noticed by the audience?
