Democrats And Liberal Media Call DeSantis And Abbott ‘Human Traffickers’

Democrats and liberal media members are ratcheting up their criticism of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) for sending illegal immigrants out of their states to self-proclaimed “sanctuary cities,” now calling for a criminal investigation into human trafficking and kidnapping claims.

Last week, DeSantis transported migrants from Florida to Martha’s Vineyard, where the Obamas have a residence, and Abbott bussed over 100 migrants out of Texas and dropped them off near the home of Vice President Kamala Harris in Washington, D.C.

This prompted a strong response from White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

“What they are doing is an illegal stunt, is a political stunt,” she said during a press conference. “It doesn’t afford them any dignity, what they’re doing when you are abandoning families and children in a place where they were told they were going to get housing.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and Florida gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist (D) took it a step further, calling for the Department of Justice to open criminal investigations.

Members of the liberal media quickly agreed.

“We need Merrick Garland once again to understand that and bring the full weight and power of the federal government down on these people,” said reporter Elie Mystal on MSNBC’s “Mehdi Hasan Show.”

During an interview with Hillary Clinton, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough referred to DeSantis’ actions as “political human trafficking.” Clinton followed up by criticizing “some politicians” for making the immigration issue worse by “literally human trafficking.”

On Sunday, former New York Rep. Max Rose (D) appeared on MSNBC’s “Ayman,” and joined the chorus of criticism.

“I think sensible Americans, and that is the vast, vast, vast majority of human beings, understand that human trafficking, kidnapping people, is absolutely wrong and that we also on the same hand can come together and execute comprehensive, sensible immigration reform,” said Rose.

The White House doubled down on its previous comments, comparing DeSantis and Abbott to “smugglers in places like Mexico and Guatemala.”

“And for what?” Jean-Pierre asked. “A photo op?”

In the latest development, Texas Sheriff Javier Salazar announced that his office had opened a criminal investigation into the incidents surrounding the migrants sent to Martha’s Vineyard. Salazar indicated that 48 migrants were “lured under false pretenses” by a recruiter who was paid a “bird dog fee.”
